Supervisor Chapman to Receive 33rd Degree Honors

Lassen County Supervisor and WebXtra Correspondent Jim Chapman takes us on another adventure this week as he travels to Washington D.C.

Chapman has been elected to receive the 33rd Degree in the Scottish Rite, one of the highest honors that a Mason can receive on the national level.

The last 33rd Degree Mason from the Lassen Lodge was George Van Tassel in 1983 and this year in the 22 county region only three members were honored with the Degree.

The ceremonies will be held today in the Washington headquarters for the Supreme Council, the ‘House of the Temple.’

If you saw the movie The Lost Symbol, based on Dan Brown’s book, the opening scenes and several other parts of the movie were filmed there.

As they tour the nation’s capital Jim and travelling companion Rick Stewart are letting us live vicariously through their cameras.

Rick and I went to a Vespers Service at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Layfette Church. It is the Church of the Presidents, built in 1815, and has been the place for every President since James Madison to worship. Pew 54 is the President's pew and is the second one from right in this picture. After the service we walked over to the White House.
