Susanville Has Parking Meters
November 27, 1956

It now costs to park in Susanville.

Susanville’s new parking meters, installed this week, have been viewed with mixed emotions by local residents.

Although meters were being used frquently on Main Street, usage in the two-hour parking meters is light.

And the Spalding Drug Store may be expressing something of a popular sentiment with its prominent floral display: A large floral tribute marked “In Memory of Free Parking.”

A total of 351 parking meters were installed on the downtown district this last week, 125 for one-hour parking and 226 for two hour.

Costing approximately $64 each, the meters will “pay for themselves” with half the collections going to the meter company, half to the city.

During the one-year trial on which they have been installed, the meters will be serviced by the police department, according to Chief of Police Fred D. Bradbury.
