Susanville Man Arrested on Sexual Assault Charges

policedepartment3A Susanville man is being held on $200,000 bail this evening after being charged with the sexual assault of his neighbor in her residence on South Weatherlow street.

According to Susanville Police Lieutenant Matt Wood, officers from the department responded to a South Weatherlow street residence on February 8th, at approximately 2:00p.m., for a report of a prior sexual assault. Upon arrival officers contacted a female victim who reported that she had been sexually assaulted in her residence by her neighbor during the previous night. The victim was later taken to Banner Lassen Medical Center for treatment.

The suspect was identified by the victim as 40 year-old Susanville resident Jose Escobar.

“Based upon the evidence that was gathered during investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained from the Lassen County Superior Court.” explained Lieutenant Wood, “On February 12th, 2014 at approximately 7:34p.m., officers from the Susanville Police Department executed an arrest warrant on Jose Escobar at his residence on South Weatherlow Street.”

Escobar was booked into the Lassen County Jail and held on $200,000 bail.
