Susanville Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Collision Near Standish

A 24-year old Susanville resident sustained fatal injuries Monday morning in a single-vehicle collision that occurred just east of Standish on Highway 395.

Shortly before noon, according to details released by the California Highway Patrol today, William Eugene Bell was driving a 2010 Dodge Charger northbound on the highway approaching Dill Slough at a high rate of speed.

“Due to his speed and level of intoxication, the subject was unable to negotiate the approaching left-hand curve,” explained CHP Public Information Officer Kristin Wilburn in the report.

The Dodge left the east side of the road and traveled along the adjacent embankment before launching through the air across Dill Slough. Bell’s vehicle then collided with the opposing embankment, causing it to overturn. The vehicle came to rest on the north side of the slough.

According to the CHP report Bell was not wearing his seat-belt during the collision and was ejected from the vehicle. He died from injuries sustained during the crash.

The collision is being investigated by the Susanville office of the CHP. If you witnessed the collision you are asked to contact the CHP at (530) 252-1800.

“The Susanville CHP would like to remind everyone to never drink and drive and always wear your seat-belt.”
