38-year-old Susanville resident Jack Lee Judlin was sentenced on September 30th, to eight years in state prison for domestic violence, a violation of Penal Code section 273.5.
The sentence followed Judlin’s guilty plea to one count of Penal Code §273.5(a), and his admission that he had a prior domestic violence conviction within the past seven years and a prior “strike” conviction. The court had the discretion to impose a sentence ranging from probation with time served up to the maximum eight years.
District Attorney Pushes for Maximum Sentence
Lassen County District Attorney Melyssah Rios successfully argued for the maximum sentence. In her comments to the court, DA Rios emphasized Judlin’s concerning history of abuse.
Rios highlighted to the court that she had been prosecuting Judlin for domestic violence since 2015, and that this was now his fourth conviction for domestic violence in ten years, committed against different women.
Due to the severity of the offense and Judlin’s criminal record, the court ultimately imposed the full eight-year sentence, aligning with the District Attorney’s office and the Probation Department’s recommendation.
