The Susanville Police Department has arrested two individuals in connection with a stabbing that occurred on May 19th, leaving a victim with life-threatening injuries. Both suspects are now in custody facing charges of attempted murder and residential burglary.
The incident unfolded on May 19th, when Susanville Police Officers were called to the emergency room at Banner Lassen Medical Center around 4:24p.m. They were informed that a stabbing victim, who had arrived by private vehicle, was in critical condition with severe injuries.
Investigators quickly determined the primary crime scene was a residence on the 1400 block of Fourth Street in Susanville. The area was immediately secured and processed for evidence, as was the vehicle used to transport the victim to the hospital.
Throughout the investigation, officers utilized surveillance footage from the area to identify two suspects: a male and a female. It was determined that the pair fled the scene in a vehicle shortly after the altercation.
On May 23rd, according to SPD Officer Tassone, the female suspect, identified as 51-year-old Brenda Vasquez of Susanville, was located and taken into custody. The male suspect, 42-year-old Edwin Oliva, also of Susanville, was apprehended more recently, on June 11th.
Both Vasquez and Oliva are currently being held at the Lassen County Adult Detention Facility as they await prosecution for attempted murder and residential burglary.
