Quick investigation by officers and surveillance video from a local business played a big part in catching two juveniles who Susanville police say took property from vehicles in the uptown area Saturday evening.
According to SPD Lieutenant Matt Wood officers responded to the Sears store at 911 Main Street at around 6:00p.m. after receiving a report that property had been stolen from a vehicle.
“Using the store’s security system,” explained Wood, “two suspicious subjects were identified leaving the store just prior to the theft being reported.”
An hour later officers from the Susanville Police department responded to another theft from a vehicle at the corner of Nevada and N. Union Streets. While responding to that call officers recognized two subjects walking in the area as being the same subjects that had been in Sears earlier.
While one officer contacted the victim of the second theft, a second officer attempted to contact the two suspects who fled the area on foot.
“Officers were able to later locate both subjects that had fled earlier,” said Wood. “As a result of the investigation, officers located stolen property from both vehicles and arrested a 15 year-old male juvenile who was in possession of some of the stolen property.”
The juvenile was booked into the Lassen County Juvenile Detention Facility on charges of grand theft, possession of stolen property, petty theft and delaying or obstructing a peace officer.
The second subject, a 15 year-old male juvenile, was located at his residence, interviewed and released to his mother.
The case has been referred to the Juvenile Division of the Lassen County Probation Department.
