Susanville Police Safely Detain Armed Subject After Shots Fired on Quarry Street

A tense situation at the top of town ended peacefully Saturday after a man brandishing a firearm began reportedly discharging the weapon during a medical emergency call.

According to Interim Public Safety Chief Alan Sobol, the incident began at approximately 3:36p.m., when the Susanville Fire Department’s Engine 621 was initially dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Quarry Street to provide medical aid.

The nature of the call shifted rapidly at approximately 3:48p.m. when fire personnel on the scene requested immediate assistance from the Susanville Police Department, reporting that a male subject was brandishing a firearm.

While officers were in transit, fire crews provided a harrowing update: the individual had begun actively discharging the weapon.

Responding law enforcement arrived shortly thereafter. Despite the volatile nature of the scene, officers were able to successfully de-escalate the situation. The subject was safely detained without further incident.

Arrest and Charges
Chief Sobol identified the subject as Carson Charles Hubauer. Hubauer was arrested on multiple charges following the encounter.

Notably, no injuries were sustained by the responding officers, fire personnel or the subject involved.

Community Safety and Cooperation
The Susanville Police Department released a statement Saturday afternoon expressing gratitude that the incident concluded without bloodshed and confirming that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Chief Sobol extended his appreciation to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire Prevention and the Susanville Fire Department.
