A Susanville man received moderate injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence Tuesday after the car he was piloting left the roadway and struck a tree along the Eagle Lake Road.
On the afternoon of April 15th, at around approximately 12:45, 60 year-old Susanville resident Donald Helton was driving his 2006 Buick Rendezvous on County Road A1 just north of SR-36 and according to the CHP failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.
Helton then allowed the Buick to travel off the east roadway edge, losing control of the vehicle while attempting to steer back onto the pavement. The car continued off the east shoulder and struck a tree. Helton sustained moderate injuries in the collision.
Helton was arrested at the scene for Driving under the Influence and then released to Mountain Life Flight and transported to Renown Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
County Road A-1 was closed in both directions for around an hour.
The CHP took this opportunity to remind drivers to not drink and drive.
