Susanville Schools Offering Three Workshops for Parents

Three Susanville Schools will be holding workshops in the coming month geared towards ‘Parents as Teachers,’ with practical information and interactive techniques to enhance the academic success of your child.

Participants will also get a chance to win a Kindle Fire just for taking part in the workshops!

The three workshops planned by the school district are:

Workshop # 1: Parents as Teachers
McKinley Elementary School cafeteria,  September 11th, from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m.

With practical steps to get actively involved in their child’s education and valuable habits to support learning, parents and guardians will be reassured that discipline and education starts with parents as first teachers.

Workshop # 2: Homework Assistance Techniques
Meadow View Elementary School Cafeteria, October 2nd, 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m.

At this workshop, attendees will learn effective techniques on how to support what is being taught at school. Research tells us that homework is reinforcement of what is learn in school at home, researchers also tell us that practice and repetition makes learning permanent.

Workshop # 3: Tips for Parenting Adolescents
Diamond View Middle School, October 23rd, 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m.

Participants will learn about the ten most common mistakes parents make when talking with their adolescent children. It will also provide specific techniques on how to deal with the youngsters and how these challenging years can be turned into more positive times.
