A Susanville woman was critically injured late Wednesday afternoon when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing Main Street in uptown.
According to details released by Susanville Police Chief Kevin Jones, officers responded to the intersection of Main and Union Streets shortly before 5:00p.m., and found the female victim lying in the roadway with two good-Samaritans who had stopped to give their assistance.
Officers provided immediate aid to a accident victim.
The investigation, according to Chief Jones, revealed that a Jeep Cherokee driven by 19-year old Susanville resident Matt Moyer had been traveling eastbound on Main Street, from the area of Gay Street, and that Moyer failed to see the pedestrian in the westerly crosswalk at the intersection.
Moyer’s Jeep struck the woman who suffered critical injuries and was eventually transported to an out of the area hospital for treatment.
The official cause of the accident will be determined after conclusion of the investigation. The identity of the victim was not released by the department.
“Our thanks goes out to those who stopped and attempted to give aid to the victim,” said Chief Jones. “We appreciate your help and compassion.”
