Taco Feed Fundraiser Huge Success for Susanville Police K9 Program

The Susanville Police Department’s K9 program is a lot closer to being a reality after a huge outpouring of support at last Friday’s Taco Feed fundraiser at the Diamond Mountain Casino.

The response was phenomenal according to Officer Mike Hoover who organized the event, “We planned to serve about 200 people and I had to send someone 3 different times to get more food so we wouldn’t have to turn anyone down at the door.”

In the end more than 400 people showed up and helped the department raise around $4,000. That brings the total raised so far to $17,600 with a goal of $25,000 to kick off the program.

“The taco feed, in my opinion was a huge success and we were all happy we had the chance to put on an event for the community,” said Officer Hoover.

“This event not only contributed to our cause, but gave us the opportunity to speak to people one on one.”

Hoover thanked IGA, Safeway, Sierra Jewelry, K & K Distributing, Impact construction, Autopro Collision, Honey Lake Firearms, Susanville Police Explorers, Morning Glory Inc., Pet Station, Uptown Uniform, Forgery and Diamond Mountain Casino.

“This is just a small group of everyone that made this event possible,” continued Hoover. “There have been countless hours of effort from many others that aren’t listed here, but there roles were essential to our success.”

Fundraising in the community continues with a gun raffle that Susan River Fire and J & K Guns are hosting. That drawing will be on April 20th and the proceeds will be split between the K9 program and Susan River Fire District.

Susanville Ford is hosting their fundraiser until April 30th, which includes $100 towards the cause for every vehicle sold. Merry Morsels is selling chocolate Shepherds and donated the proceeds for every piece sold.

“In the near future,” said Officer Hoover, “Chief Jones and I will be traveling to Banning, California to select my K9 partner.”

“I am happy to say we are right on track to have a new K9 team serving the community in July 2019.”
