The Bizz Johnson Trail

The gorgeous and scenic path of the Bizz Johnson Trail cuts between Westwood and Susanville along the old route of the Fernley and Lassen Railroad line.

The railroad moved logs and lumber along the route until it was shut down in 1956. The line was abandoned by the railroad in 1978 and converted into the beautiful trail we see today.

From 1959's "Pocket Congressional Directory of the Eighty-Sixth Congress" published by US Government Printing Office.

The trail is named after Congressman Harold “Bizz” Johnson, who represented our area for 22 years in the House of Representatives and was integral in the creation of the trail.

The Bureau of Land Management completed the trail in 1986 and now jointly manages it with the U.S. Forest Service.
