Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope your day is full of flowers, chocolate, and someone special. Unless you think that Valentine’s Day is an over-hyped, cash grab invented by Hallmark to sell more greeting cards. If that’s the case, then have a great Tuesday!
It was another great weekend for the Lassen High School Grizzliettes! They competed at the USA Northern California State Dance Classic in three divisions and brought home some hardware.
In the military division, the Grizzliettes placed first with a routine to “Paint it Black” choreographed by drill team alum Kat Guess. Jen Paez, another former Grizzliette, came back to teach and clean the dance.
Their hip hop dance, choreographed by former captain Anna Townsend and Seanne McElrath, earned third place in a very competitive division. The team also got a third in the lyrical division with a dance to “Hold my Hand” choreographed by Jillaine Singleton.
This was the first time the team has competed at the state level and as their coach, I couldn’t be prouder. Now we have a month to go over the judges’ feedback, re-do formations, and get ready for the Nationals Competition in Anaheim on March 17th.
In other local sporting news, the LHS basketball teams enter playoffs this week. Our boys team plays Winters on Wednesday 2/15 at 6:00. We would love to have a big, rowdy crowd to begin their post season with a successful start.
The Lady Grizz will play the winner of tomorrow’s Yreka/Colusa game on Thursday 2/16 at 7:00. Celebrating their league champ status, the team would also benefit from a gym packed with lots of local fans.
Lassen wrestlers had a great showing at last weekend’s CIF match, placing third as a team. Dathen Moore and Talon Pleau took first, Reagan Dunten and Kona Rigney grabbed second, while Deshon Moore, Zayn Wright, Hollin Thomas, Quinton Maumoynier, and Clayton Biggs placed third. Aviana and Trinity Crandall both got fourth in their classes. Alex Shaw and Phillip Bush finished sixth.
Lassen’s soccer teams are also entering playoff season. Our girls team, finishing 3rd in league, will play Corning at home on Thursday 2/16. The boys take on West Valley at home this afternoon. Times to be announced.
Baseball season is right around the corner and our Little League board has a new president, Casey Lee. I asked Casey what to expect from the board with his leadership and he said that with “the changing of the guard” they will be “bringing the focus on the kids.”
He acknowledged that there were issues with last year’s sponsor banners and is hoping to repair those relationships with an event that was held last week. He said they “are excited to get a fresh start”.
If you are interested in being a sponsor, please contact Susanville Little League on Facebook.
Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
