The Good Stuff by Shelley Bennett

This past weekend was a good time to just breathe. We bought some plants, used the BBQ for the first time, and I made macaroni salad which is a signal in our house that it is getting closer to Summer.

I looked over the calendar filled with graduations, last recitals, awards and scholarship nights, the annual Bio Trip, and took a deep breath. Ordered senior pictures and high school graduation announcements. Received college graduation announcements.

It was a lot.

If you want to see me next month, I am available on the 19th.

In addition to breathing, I kept my opinion to myself. Where should Sofia go to school? What will her major be? What dorm should she live in? What is Landon going to do after graduation? What should we have for dinner?

Honestly, I do not know. I am deep in the overwhelm.

I also didn’t interfere.

I am working with someone on a project. It is actually their project, I’m like a chaperone. And while I thought this project should be attended to sometime this weekend, that is not what the someone thought. So I took a breath, held on to my opinion, and didn’t interfere.

Do you notice a pattern here? I cannot always be in charge.

It is as difficult to type that sentence as it is for me to practice what it says.

I am thankful for my husband Leo, who is good at making lists of pros and cons. He also knows when I need to watch trash TV and/or take a nap.

I have one more day until I dive into May. Wish me luck.

Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
