Team and Individual goals are represented in their team’s Gold Medal

Your Lassen High School Grizzliettes are getting prepared for the upcoming football season and are excited to perform under the Friday Night Lights.

Recently, some team members attended the United Spirit Association (USA) Dance Camp held at William Jessup University in Rocklin. The dancers enjoyed a taste of college life by staying in the dorms and eating meals in the dining commons. They also did a lot of dancing.

From warm ups and stretching in the morning to technique classes to learning new choreography, the Grizzliettes practiced for hours every day to ensure a smooth season ahead. They played games and bonded as a team.

A workshop in Unity utilized goal setting for individuals and as a team. Captains Julienne Bennett and Kylee Tancreto participated in leadership workshops where they met with other team leaders and shared best practices.

The Drill Team learned dances in many genres, including lyrical, hip hop, jazz, pom, kick, and contemporary. There is a trend, modeled after college dance teams, to collaborate with cheer teams on the sidelines, so they were also instructed in “Quarter Breaks”.

During the “Choose Your Challenge” series, the Grizzliettes received specialized instruction in flexibility and bringing out the funk in hip hop.

Sophomore Parker Foreman and Junior Kaylee Micone learned an additional routine in order to audition for the All-American Team. Micone was chosen to represent LHS at this level and given a special patch and certificate.

In Choreography To-Go, a hip hop routine was taught to the whole team. Later, captains Julienne and Kylee made changes in the dance through the use of formations, level changes, ripples, and adding their own team flair. They earned an “Excellent” on their evaluation.

Each dancer received personalized feedback on one performance, their Routine A. Parker Foreman also received a “Super Sensational” ribbon showing that she exceeded the instructor’s expectations.

Both senior Julienne Bennett and Kaylee Micone earned “Super Sensational” in their Routine B.

During the awards ceremony, Micone won a spot as one of the Super Sensational finalists. She was also given a “Pin It Forward” award by Ava, an instructor who praised Kaylee’s efforts in class.

One of the highlights of camp is the Drill Down, a series of commands and actions modeled after the military. Drill downs help dancers maintain focus and sharpness as well as develop discipline. Junior Hailey Sandoval, Senior Kylee Tancreto, Parker Foreman, and Kaylee Micone all made it the first place round of drill downs.

In keeping with the camp’s theme, the Grizzliettes are Ready, Set, GOLD and will be leaving the crowd in awe with their sparkle at Varsity halftimes this fall!

Grizzliettes get into the Olympic spirit!

Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
