The Game of Lassen started last Monday with a Guess Who dress up day. Students and staff alike were seen “twinning” to pay homage to the classic matching game.
Tuesday brought White Lies, Wednesday was a chance to dress as the future you (I was the Evil Queen), and on Thursday the campus was covered with Uno colors: green, yellow, red, and blue.
In the end, the seniors were victorious with the most participation. Freshmen took second, with the Juniors and Sophomores following in 3rd and 4th.
On Thursday afternoon, the student body enjoyed an assembly which featured a parade of floats and royalty around the football field. Our Alumni of the Year, Jeremy Couso, led the parade.
Jeremy is a member of the class of 1988, local business owner, music aficionado, and the owner, operator, and founder of our local news source SusanvilleStuff.com. He is known for being an exceptional emcee of many shows, like the Miss Lassen County pageant and Dancing for a Brand New Me, and taking pictures to record the celebrations, important events, and everyday life of our community.
Jeremy was followed by the Drill Team who performed a sideline dance to “Runaway Baby”. The Varsity Football team was next and they went through their traditional pride drill to the applause of the audience.
The LHS cheerleaders were next and as they walked by the grandstands, they smiled and waved at the crowd. Royalty was introduced, starting with freshmen prince and princess Jordan Conoboy and Brooklyn Britt.
Kai Vinson and Cadence Morris represented the sophomores, while Curtis Mallory and Emrie Singh were chosen by the Juniors.
Senior Princesses Aly Martinez, Allie Chandler, and Abbi Vincent were escorted by Princes Connor Perkins, Gavin Grady, and Connor Kirack. It was revealed that Brooklyn Glover and Chris Rigling were the 2024 Homecoming Queen and King to many cheers in the crowd.
The Class of 2028 presented their first float with a Game of Life theme. They recreated the game to reflect the Homecoming game complete with the iconic wheel. Candyland was brought to life by the Class of 2027 with a brightly colored float packed with candy and sweets of all kinds.
The Class of 2026 portrayed the game Battleship with their float. The battle between the Grizzly and Foothill’s Cougar ended in victory for Lassen. The seniors went out big with an elaborate skit based on the game Clue. The clues revealed that the culprit was a football player wielding a football as a weapon.
Seniors won first in the float and skit competition, followed by the Sophomores, Juniors, and Freshmen.
Unfortunately, our Varsity team came up short against Foothill, but it was a great game and kept the student section on their feet, cheering in support accompanied by the LHS Drumline.
Many students got dressed up and ended the week at the Homecoming Dance hosted by the Class of 2027 on Saturday. The Vets Hall, in a Candyland theme, was decorated with candy colored balloons and décor taken from their float. DJ Doug Cain and his daughter Shay provided the tunes.
Many thanks to our ASB officers and class members and my co-teacher Becky Reger for keeping up their energy all week and making Homecoming 2024 a great success.
