With a pile of essays to grade and a Christmas list that’s only halfway complete, my mind is a little scattered so I wanted to share a few things that have warmed my heart this holiday season.
- Our LHS Grizzly Varsity Football team winning a section championship! And of course, moving on to a state playoff game, a first for Lassen football.
We caught the last half of the game v. American Canyon at the Boardroom, which was packed with fans including coach McMullen’s dad and brothers. It was very cool to be part of this crowd who cheered on the Grizzlies until the end. - I look forward to our Magical Country Christmas every year and this one was spectacular. There were SO many people watching the parade and fireworks, sipping hot drinks, and visiting the uptown businesses and vendors!
Thank you to our Chamber of Commerce for continuing to improve this event every year. There’s always a moment when I look around in disbelief at the sheer amount of people packed into one place. - My freshmen Advocacy class wrote Christmas messages to be sent to shut ins. Since they didn’t know who would receive their card, I asked them to keep it positive and general.
One 9th grader lamented that the recipient was in the hospital during Christmas but hoped they “had fun”. Another asked to be contacted if they had fireworks to celebrate New Year’s Eve. He even included his phone number. - Last week was our Christmas Spirit week at LHS. I love the creativity of our students and staff. It made me very happy to see the variety of Ugly Christmas sweaters, PJs, Christmas vacation attire, and Santa’s helpers on campus. It made preparing for finals a little more fun.
- Waking up last Friday morning and realizing that all three of my kids are at home was the best feeling. I am looking forward to two weeks of baking, movies, game nights, delivering treats, and being together.
While the ways we find the Christmas spirit may differ, there’s always an opportunity to embrace the season and find joy in the smallest of gestures. Merry Christmas! See you in the New Year!
Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
