The Class of 1988 has been fortunate to hold reunions almost every five years. We have a core group of loyal Grizzlies who make the trek back to Lassen County to visit those of us who still call this place home. It’s always a good time.
Our last two reunions were held at Sentimental Journey.
Owners Don and Sharon McMullen are the ultimate hosts. Sharon makes delicious food and decorates the tables with purple and gold linens and Don keeps a watchful eye over the activities. We listen to 80s music, laughing and talking long into the night.
But in the last year or so, I’ve decided that every five years isn’t enough to see the people who you care about. With the loss of two of my favorite classmates, Fred Franco and Jason Anderson, I’m more aware of how long five years actually is and how quickly life can change.
So, I want to invite my classmates to the annual Alumni Picnic. Actually, anyone (and everyone) is welcome to come! Even if you only attended LHS for a short time and graduated from another high school. We are a welcoming bunch.
This year’s Alumni Picnic is on Saturday June 14th, from 10:00a.m. until 2:00p.m. at Jensen Hall. The cost is $28 per person and includes a BBQ tri-tip and chicken lunch with all the fixins.
In fact, there are SO MANY fixins, I’m going to list them: chili beans, green beans, Mexican corn salad, green salad, pasta salad, potato salad, watermelon, dinner rolls and butter, lemonade, iced tea, and water.
You’ll need to RSVP by June 5th so they can print a nametag and make sure there is enough food. If you shoot me an email at [email protected], I’ll reply with a registration form.
There will be lots of reminiscing, storytelling, and the announcement of the alumni of the year.
One of the things I’m looking forward to is hearing stories about my parents and their times at Lassen High. If you see me, please share what you remember about my aunts and uncles too.
I used to think I was too young to attend the Alumni Picnic, but I am fully embracing it now. See you there!
Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
