I have so many ideas in my brain today, it would be impossible to fit them in one column. I decided to share, stream of consciousness style. Thank you for understanding.
The Northern CA Cancer Advocates hosted their 13th annual Swing for Cancer golf tournament over the recent Labor Day weekend. This group was originally formed by cancer survivor Rachelle Surian in an effort to keep funding local.

This year they made over $35,000 to help cancer warriors in Lassen and Plumas counties. A big thank you to our army of volunteers, all of our golfers, and the MANY businesses and individuals who donated money, raffle gifts, food, and other necessities to make this event happen. YOU are the reason we can help so many people in our area.
Speaking of big events, the drill team and I helped with an Aid Station at the Susanville Gravel Adventure Ride last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed myself. This is a joint venture organized by Lassen Land and Trails Trust, Susanville Area Bicycle Association, and The Bizz Running Company.
Over 400 bicyclists entered the race, which included 4 different routes. Our Aid Station on Norvell Road serviced the riders entered in Full and Half Squatch, a little over 90 and 60 miles respectively.

The majority of these riders were from out of town, many from Sacramento and the Bay Area. They were so grateful and appreciative of the cold water, electrolytes, PB&Js, and other snacks, I almost felt guilty for not having more to offer. They loved the course and enjoyed our natural beauty.
As you might know, I’m not an outdoorsy person. I would rather curl up with a good book or true crime documentary, but Linda Powell, owner of the Bizz Running Company, talked me out of my comfort zone and I’m so glad she did!
On Monday October 6th, there is a street taco dinner to benefit Ayden Yerington, a local 12-year-old boy recently diagnosed with cancer. I don’t know Ayden well, but I am a big fan of his mom Tasia and sisters Alliyah and Aubrey and I would do anything to help ease their burden during this trying time.
For $15, you’ll get a plate of three tacos, rice, and beans and you can take out or dine in at the Susanville Assembly of God church. Get your tickets at: T&A Café, Margie’s Book Nook, Lassen County Federal Credit Union, Lassen Virtual Academy, Janesville School, Diamond View School, McKinley School, or the Susanville School District office on S. Weatherlow Street.

As I wrote all my thoughts down, it came to me that there is a common thread: we live in an incredible place with amazing people who have the biggest hearts. Thank you Susanville!
And before I forget: Happy 30th Anniversary Keith and Becky Williams! It seems like just yesterday I was standing by your side while you took your vows.
Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
