A torrential downpour at lunchtime on October 3rd helped make Homecoming 2025 one to remember. One of Susanville’s infamous displays of weather turned our traditional outside parade and assembly into an inside-only event.

SB students made the best of it and the addition of several dodgeball games made it a fun afternoon for both the participants and those watching in the stands.

To start off the assembly, directors Carter Huber and Mia Molina led the roll call. The alumni of the year, Sandy Mansfield Mineau and Kimberly Brown, were introduced. These two members of the Class of 1965 were not able to be present, but they were celebrated in spirit.

The Drill Team followed with a sideline pom dance to “Let’s Dance.” Then Coach McMullen led the varsity football team in the pride drill.

Introduction of the Homecoming Royalty started off with the freshmen prince Kole Launius and princess Charli Lewis. Sophomore prince Tyler Russell and princess Taylor Blankenship were next with Junior prince and princess Jayden Kiris and Yuli Orozco after them.

The Senior representatives included: boys Jace Shafe, Bradley Simoni, Curtis Mallery, and Logan Poteete and girls Saule Kenstaviciute, Awapuhi Hathaway, Victoria Pribble, and Makenzie Mason.

Each senior couple was given a confetti popper and at the count of three, let them off. A shower of green confetti revealed our Homecoming King Bradley Simoni and Queen Awapuhi Hathaway and was met by much applause and cheering.

That evening the classes were able to present their floats and skits. The Freshmen Class chose a variety of songs with stars in their lyrics to present in lip sync style. Our Sophomores decided to host a battle between the LP Thunderbird and Lassen Grizzly, which of course, the Grizzly won.

Both the juniors and seniors played up the “Northern Lights” part of the theme. The class of 2027 presented a winter wonderland at the North Pole, complete with a Grizzly Santa, Grinch, and a team of cheering elves. The Seniors chose Elsa, Anna, and Olaf to depict their wintry scene.

In their Hoco debut, the Class of 2029 won first place, Juniors earned second, Seniors placed third, and the Sophomores ended in fourth.

At halftime, the audience enjoyed performances by the Drill Team, Cheerleaders, and Drum Line, ending the festivities with the school song, “Loyal and True”.

To cap the night off, all three Grizzly football teams were victorious over Las Plumas.

Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
