Sometimes, at the end of the school year, it takes a couple of days to get to the Good Stuff. The Lassen High School ASB hosted their end of the year Awards Assembly on Monday, June 2nd. Excitement was in the air as students packed together in the gym and took their seats.
After the traditional roll call of the class sections, Aly Martinez, of the yearbook staff read the dedication.
This year’s Rays from the Purple is dedicated to 100 Years of Football at LHS. Former coaches and their family members were honored with a framed copy of the page. Linda Dunn, daughter of the late Bob Genasci, Greg Dickerson, Paul Moore, Tom St. Jacques, Jason McMullen, and Jarrett Ellena son of Bill Ellena were all in attendance.
Seniors then passed over embellished Burger King crowns to the Junior class to mark their promotion. Mike West, PE teacher and track coach, was awarded the Teacher of the Year. Mike is an alumnus and has done an incredible job of revitalizing the PE program with his enthusiasm and love for LHS.
Alice Speiker, another alum, was recognized as the Classified Staff member of the year. Alice works in our Tech dept and is instrumental in the daily operations of Lassen High. Just today, she stopped by and fixed an issue for me. I always appreciate her patience!
Principal Dr. Lynn Pikero awarded staff members with their years of service certificates, which included:
Teachers – Kris Runyan (5 years), Jenn Lepage (10), Carrie Satica (15), Zeane Barber (25), Kevin McCullough (25), and Jon Westfall (30).
Classified staff – Ray Madden (5 years), Manual Rakestraw (5), Andrea Rose (10), Ronda Morgan Meade (10).
Athletic Director Bob Nielsen gave awards to the “Tremendous 12”, students who have played a sport every season of the 4 years in high school. This year’s Tremendous 12 are: Lucy Olsen, Cori Nystrom, Reegan Dunten, Joey Harrison, and Cameron Wattenburg.
Nielsen also announced that this year’s Female and Male Athletes of the Year are Cori Nystrom (golf, soccer, drill team) and Reegan Dunten (football, wrestling, track and field).
Both Joey and Reegan will play at the Lions All Star game later this summer.
Reegan was also the recipient of the CIF State Office Fall Male Spirit of Sport Award. This is an incredible honor and Reegan was surprised with a banner presented by Carol Kramer.
Blue Star Moms Joann Darlington and Christy Rose presented Feliciano Magallenes with a red, white, and blue stole to wear at graduation. He will be entering the Marines.
The 2025-2026 ASB officers were sworn in by outgoing president Peyton Garate. Our new officers are president Hailey Dawson, vice president Dalila Heard, secretary Savanna Duncan, public relations Meleea Henderson-Ramirez, and directors of assemblies Mia Molina and Carter Huber.
As their first official duty, Mia and Carter helped form the “good-bye” line of teachers and senior filed out of the gym led by 24-25 assembly directors Zayn Wright and Alexa Winje. Tears were shed.
Then each class shifted into its new section and students were released to enjoy the ASB carnival out on the football field.
Departments also gave out certificates to their high achieving students, which you can read all about next week!
It’s almost Summer! Woohoo!

Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
