The Veteran’s Hall on Main Street is decorated, boots and ball gowns are coming out of the closet and the party of the year – one with an incredible purpose – is set to begin. This Saturday night the Susanville Police Officer’s Association, along with the Lassen College Baseball team, will be presenting their second annual Policemen’s Ball and every single dollar goes towards making Christmas a little brighter for Susanville children. The event is a fundraiser for the annual ‘Shop with a Cop’ Christmas program for disadvantaged local kids.
Last year with an overwhelming response from the public, and money made through ticket sales and Policemen’s Ball auction items, every single eligible child who was nominated was able to join local police and Lassen ballplayers for a Christmas shopping spree! Imagine that – because of this one event and contributions from the community these children experienced a Christmas they might have never known.
Just before Christmas, early on a weekend morning with the store virtually to themselves, these happy childrenĀ got to pick out their own toys from Wal-Mart’s toy section as Susanville’s finest helped them browse the shelves andĀ find that special toy.
In the aislesĀ of the store Lassen’s baseball team played reindeer games with the kids. Photos with Santa, toys, hot chocolate,Ā Christmas goodies – it is a party these kids would never have known if it weren’t for the Police Officer’s Association and the Policemen’s Ball. Want to see for yourself? Follow this link and take a look at our gallery of photos from last year’s Shop with a Cop event. Check out the smiles on their faces as they get to take part in a Christmas party they will never forget.
The Policemen’s ball has been sold out for a while now – tickets go fast when you are throwing the coolest party in town – but we thought it important to remind those of you who are going to be there Saturday to bring checkbooks and cash for some amazing auction items.
Party-goers will be able to bid on neat stuff from the Beauty Bar, Customer Talk, Halcyon Touch, Sierra Tan, Clippendales, Primo Deli, Port of Subs, Lassen College Baseball, Elegant Iris, Uptown Uniforms and a lot of others.
Auction items include an iPad donated by Wheels West, pretty things from Sierra Jewelry and food from the White House and the Court House Cafe.
If you weren’t lucky enough to score tickets to the Policemen’s Ball then you will miss the Rookie Dance-Off, but there will still be plenty of opportunities this fall to contribute to the Shop with a Cop program.
