Never Kick a Man When He is Down

In the wake of the devastating conflagration that did more than $600,000 dollars damage, and completely wiped out the business section of Susanville the people of Amedee are making a fight to remove the county seat of Lassen from Susanville to Amedee.
It occurs to the GAZETTE that Susanville has had about enough bad luck without Amedee giving her the county seat to worry about.
In other words, “never kick a man a lying down.”
Editor Lemmon of the Amedee Geyser arrived in town last evening. He says Amedee is not lively, but it is by no means dead. There are six flowing artesian wells in the valley within a few miles of town, and several more are being bored.
The fruit crop in Honey Lake Valley, he says, is better than usual this year.
The Geyser claims that a mine of baking powder has been discovered near Amedee. Let somebody now develop a flour quarry and the Amedians will be fixed.
The N.C.& 0. Railroad Company proposes getting up an excursion next Saturday to Amedee. The party will consist of about 150 leading citizens of Reno. The train will leave Reno at 8 o’clock A.M. and return the same night.
