In Loving Memory of Thomas Joseph Pourchot
February 5, 1955 – January 9, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Joseph Pourchot, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and mentor. He was born on February 5, 1955, in Highland, Illinois, to William and Norma Pourchot.
Tom was a devoted husband to Ruby. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared memories. He was a proud father to his five children.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, William and Norma, and his sister, Robbie Courtney. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Pourchot; his sister, Jeri Pourchot; his children: Jenny Pourchot, Sara Pourchot, Amber Conrad, Jake Pourchot, and Luke Pourchot; and his cherished grandchildren: Emily, Kaydence, Stella, Carson, Eli, Madelyn, Andrew, Henry, and Evan. Additionally, he held a special place in his heart for his beloved mother-in-law, Rachel Farnsworth.
Tom was a valued member of the community. He was involved with EDAWN and the AGC. He served as a Management Trustee for the Electrical Workers Pension Trust Fund and was a Board Member of the NNJATC from 2012 to 2024.
Tom’s professional journey was one of dedication and excellence. He began working at a young age, starting a lawn-mowing company and later working at the Overland Casino. In 1977, he began his career with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) through their apprenticeship program. Completing his training in 1981, he graduated as the overall best in his class.
Tom started as an apprentice at Nelson Electric, where, over the course of the next 34 years, he worked his way up to Vice President of Construction. Afterward, Tom worked as the Vice President of Operations for Intermountain Electric, retiring in May 2024 after 47 years in the electrical industry.
One of his proudest accomplishments was his role as an instructor at the NNJATC, where, for 25 years, he mentored and trained countless wiremen and women, shaping the next generation of electricians.
A service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held at Waltons Funeral Home, 2155 Kietzke Lane, Reno, NV, on January 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Donate to the Cause | Moms on the Run. A reception will follow at IBEW 401 Union Hall, 4635 Longley Lane, Reno, Nevada.
Tom’s legacy of hard work, integrity, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all the lives and buildings he touched.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our friends and neighbors who supported us during this difficult time. Your daily check-ins, heartfelt cards, letters, and acts of kindness meant the world to us.
