Three Local LEO’s to Compete in Saturday’s Battle of the Badge in Reno

Three local law enforcement officers will be representing the community at the “Battle of the Badge II” jiu-jitsu tournament this Saturday, September 7th, at the Grand Sierra Resort, 2500 E. 2nd Street in Reno.

The tournament, which is being billed as “the ultimate first responder jiu-jitsu showdown,” will feature a variety of matches between law enforcement and first responders from across the region. All proceeds from the event will benefit Code Three Jiu Jitsu, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing martial arts training to first responders and veterans.

The three Susanville competitors, Ruben ‘Manny’ Rosas, Andrew ‘Mac’ Macovichik, and Terra Avilla, are all members of the Grappling Bear Jiu Jitsu academy in Susanville. They will be competing in various weight classes and belt divisions. Rosas and Macovichik are representing the California Department of Corrections while Avilla represents the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office.

Code Three Jiu Jitsu was founded with the goal of improving the physical and mental health of first responders. The organization’s programs combine traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques with training specifically designed to meet the unique needs of those who serve. By providing a supportive community and high-level training, Code Three Jiu Jitsu helps first responders develop self-defense skills, reduce stress, and build resilience.

The Battle of the Badge II will begin at 5:00p.m. this Saturday, September 7th. Doors open at 4:00 PM. Tickets, which start at $55, are available for purchase online by following this link. For more information visit www.codethree.org.
