Tommy (Tom) Darrell Henderson

Tom Henderson passed away peacefully on August 25, 2022.

Tom was born December 13,1941 , in Porterville California to LaHoma Henderson. Tom
graduated from Porterville High School in 1960 and Porterville Junior College in 1962 with
a Business Degree. Tom was a member of the Rodeo Cowboys Association (RCA) from
1961-1970 competing in bull riding, bareback riding and saddle bronc riding. Tom married
his high school sweetheart Shirley in April 1964.

In 1970 he went to work for Sears Roebuck & Company as a Manager in Porterville. His
job as Sears Manager took him to Apple Valley California and Twenty-Nine Palms
California until 1976 when he moved his family to Susanville California. Tom managed
the Susanville store until 1982.

Tom was the Lassen County Fair Manager from 1984 to 1999 and was a past member of
the Lassen County Sheriff’s Posse. Tom rode is trusty Morgan horse Thunder in many
fair parades with the Sheriff’s Posse and enjoyed team roping.

Tom and his wife Shirley owned and operated the Early Bird Cafe in Johnstonville.
Tom could be found every morning behind the grill cooking breakfast for everyone and
enjoying good conversation with the customers. After the restaurant closed, Tom went
to work for the Lunsford Family at Susanville Motors as the Finance Manager until his
retirement. During his retirement, Tom enjoyed playing golf with his buddies.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife Shirley. Tom is survived by his daughter and son-in-
law Deborah and Terry Savage of Standish, granddaughter Melissa Swartz of
Susanville, grandson Tom Savage of Phoenix Arizona and great granddaughters Tristan,
Kyria and Chantilly. Funeral services will be held Monday September 19, 2022 at
Diamond Crest Cemetery at 10:00a.m.
