The holiday season is officially upon us, and the wait is finally over. Tomorrow night, Saturday, December 6th, Main Street will be closed to traffic and transformed into a winter wonderland for the 20th Annual Magical Country Christmas Celebration.
Brought to you by the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Susanville, this beloved local tradition kicks off at 4:00p.m. in Historic Uptown Susanville. Families, friends, and neighbors are invited to fill the streets for an evening of music, shopping and holiday cheer.
The Parade and Tree Lighting
The centerpiece of the evening, the Magical Country Christmas Parade, will begin at 6:00p.m. The procession will move up Main Street from North Union Street, featuring a festive lineup of floats, decorated vehicles, fire trucks, members of local organizations and clubs like 4H and Job’s Daughters and festive side-by-sides all lit up with Christmas cheer.
The parade leads toward the old Elks Lodge and will conclude with the arrival of the evening’s special guest—Old Saint Nicholas—riding aboard the City of Susanville’s vintage fire truck.
This year features an exciting upgrade to the festivities: the debut of a new, much larger community Christmas Tree at the top of Main Street. Once Santa reaches the end of the parade route, the switch will be thrown to light the massive tree, followed immediately by a spectacular fireworks display launching from the lawn of the Elks Lodge.
Entertainment and Shopping
There is plenty to see and do before the fireworks begin. The event will feature live holiday music and performances by local favorites, including J&J Performing Arts and the Susanville Kickettes, the official Susanville dance troupe of Christmas.
Uptown businesses will be keeping their doors open late for holiday shoppers, and the street will be lined with vendors selling custom gifts, food and warm beverages like hot cocoa.
Adult revelers can also participate in the Christmas Hot Toddy Walk, inviting guests to celebrate with a little extra holiday cheer. Hot Toddy Walk locations include Sierra Desert Properties, Blue Ox Chocolates, Haven Studio, Susanville Real Estate, Forest Office Equipment and Margie’s Book Nook.
You can buy tickets at Blue Ox Chocolates or in front of the LMUD parking at the corner of Main and Gay streets. The price is $6 a drink, or 5 for $25.
You can stop by 614 Main Street or call 1.530.257.5274 for more details on the walk.
