A 32-year old Susanville man with a ‘no bail’ warrant was arrested Saturday by officers from the Susanville Police Department thanks to the help of community members who kept tabs on the suspect as he attempted to evade police for nearly 45 minutes.
Officers responded to the Joaquin Street area early Saturday afternoon according to details released Sunday by Police Chief Kevin Jones after receiving a report of trespassing at a residence.
“When they arrived, the suspect known to the Officers as Rodney Benjamin, fled on foot,” explained Chief Jones who added that Benjamin was known to have a ‘No Bail’ warrant for his arrest.
SPD Officers set up a perimeter, assisted by LCSO Deputies, in an effort to capture Benjamin.
“Over a period of 45 minutes, community members continually called in reporting Benjamin’s whereabouts until he was eventually placed into custody.”
Benjamin was booked into the Lassen County Jail on the warrant and trespassing charges.
“We couldn’t have caught him without those calls coming in from the community,” said Officer Hoover of the Susanville PD. “We appreciate all of the assistance from the community and the proactive collaboration with the Susanville Indian Rancheria, for putting this person in custody.”
