Organizers of one of Lassen County’s most important events, and one which has helped keep our graduating seniors safer for nearly 30 years, are gearing up for the 2014 Sober Graduation activity on June 7th, with local businesses stepping up to the plate again this year to help make the party a success.
On Friday AAA Insurance agent Robert Phelps joined the long list of supporters by contributing $500 to the grad-night fun.
The annual Sober Grad party starts shortly after high school graduation on Friday night and gives graduates fun activities to stay entertained until morning, when they are served a big breakfast and get a chance to win one of hundreds of prizes donated by generous local businesses and organizations. Cool prizes too, with everything from laptops and tablets to big screen tvs!
The Lassen County Office of Instruction has held the overnight party for 29 years and during that time there have been no injuries or arrests graduation night. A testament to the effectiveness and worth of the sober-grad model.
Incentive for graduates to spend the night at the fairgrounds include bounce houses, games, movies and at the conclusion of the event, around sunrise, students will have a chance to win a car! Jason Rieger, owner of Wheels West in Susanville, donates a vehicle each year for the kids to win.
If your business or organization would like to make a contribution you can call James Hall at the Lassen County Office of Education, 251-8711.
