The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, the Susanville Police Department and the California Highway Patrol worked as a team to serve a search warrant at a residence in Litchfield Wednesday, and came away with a trove of stolen property, firearms, ammunition and controlled substances.
According to details released today by Sheriff’s Office Captain Kevin Jones, LCSO had obtained a search warrant to search for stolen property at a residence on Tule Lane in Litchfield. Detectives and Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office, along with Detectives from the Susanville Police Department, served the search warrant at the residence of John Wilson in Litchfield Wednesday evening.
“After safely securing the people inside the residence,” explained Captain Jones, “a search of the residence and multiple outbuildings began.”
During the search Detectives discovered multiple items that had been stolen during recent burglaries. A host of guns and controlled substances were also observed in plain view.
“Two of the residents were identified as convicted felons and admitted to possessing the firearms,” said Captain Jones. “Detectives sought a second search warrant to include a search for firearms, ammunition and controlled substances.”
Upon receiving the second search warrant, Detectives recovered 11 firearms that were illegally possessed along with methamphetamine and ammunition. Three of the firearms were identified as stolen in a recent Lassen County burglary, one was an illegal short-barreled shotgun and another one had the serial number removed.
Detectives arrested 54-year old Lassen County resident Mitchell Dye, for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Also arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing drugs while armed with a loaded firearm, possession of an illegal (short-barrel) rifle/shotgun and possession of a dangerous drug was 54-year old Litchfield resident John Wilson.
Both suspects were booked into the Lassen County Jail. Dye’s bail was set at $20,000 while Wilson is being held on $40,000. The investigation will continue and the public is encouraged to pass on any information related to recent thefts and burglaries.
“The partnership we enjoy with our community and partner agencies is wonderful,” said Sheriff Dean Growdon. “We appreciate the ongoing assistance of the Susanville Police Department, California Highway Patrol and the public. We will continue to work together to arrest these violators and try to bring justice for their victims.”
