
The City of Susanville has officially issued a call for candidates in the local municipal election, which will be held in conjunction with the California Primary Election on Tuesday, June 2nd. Susanville voters will be asked to fill two seats on the City Council.
Both available seats carry a full four-year term. If you’ve ever considered a seat at the dais to help shape the future of our community, now is the time to prepare your paperwork.
Key Deadlines for Candidates
City Clerk Heidi Whitlock has outlined the following timeline for residents interested in running for office:
Nomination Period Opens: Monday, February 9th.
Nomination Period Closes: Friday, March 6th, at 5:00p.m.
Incumbent Extension: If an incumbent fails to file by the March 6th deadline, the nomination period for non-incumbents will be extended until March 11th.
Per California Elections Code §10229, if only one person (or no one) is nominated for a seat, the city may move to fill the office via appointment.
The last day to register to vote for the June 2nd, Primary Election is May 18th. The county elections office will begin mailing ballots by May 4th, and ballot drop-off locations open on May 5th.
