Two Homes Destroyed in Pair of Weekend Wildfires

Underscoring the dry conditions and elevated fire danger, firefighters from agencies throughout the valley worked a pair of fires Saturday afternoon and evening.

The Coyote Fire, which was reported early Saturday afternoon, burned around 21 acres near Rice Canyon Road. There were no injuries in the blaze, but two homes and several outbuildings were destroyed before crews stopped the forward progress of the fire at around 5:00p.m.

The cause of that fire is currently under investigation.

Saturday evening crews were sent to the area behind Johnstonville Quality Foods in Johnstonville for a fire that spread between buildings and into vegetation, covering approximately half an acre.

According to Cal-FIRE LMU, resources on scene worked to quickly extinguish the fire and no structures were lost.

Agencies responding to the Johnstonville Susanville City Fire Department, Lake Forest Fire Protection District, Janesville Fire District and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department.
