Lassen County Veteran’s organizations paid tribute to local law enforcement last Wednesday evening at their annual awards night ceremony, packed with family and friends, at the Veterans Memorial Hall.
The Marine Corp League, the American Legion Post and the Veterans of Foreign Wars each honored officers with special tributes.
The Marine Corp League paid its respects to its Officers of the Year, Susanville Police Department Reserve Officer Michael Haldane; Joanne Vice, a Correctional Officer at CCC; California Highway Patrol officer Tom Hester and firefighter Wayde Nash from the Susanville Fire Department.
American Legion Thomas Tucker Post 204 named Lassen County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Rorie; Priscilla Ruiz, a Supervisor at the Juvenile Detention Facility and Stacy Shurtliff from the Lassen County Search and Rescue team as their Peace Officers of the Year.
The American Legion’s Firefighter of the Year is Captain Dan Weaver a member of the Lassen County Fire Officer’s Association.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars, William Davidson Post no. 2381 names it’s Peace Officer of the Year, Sergeant Gregory Crowe from the Department of Corrections at HDSP.
Captain Doug Young, a firefighter for Lassen National Forest, Fire captain Robert Chesnick and fire engineer Joseph Walton of the Cal fire Lassen Modoc Plumas Unit were also honored by the VFW.
Captain Kyle Krache, a firefighter from the BLM’s Eagle Lake Field office, was also honored by the veterans group.
Fire Captain Robert Chesnick and Fire Engineer Joseph Walton both from Cal Fire were given special honors and were submitted for the Medal of Valor award. For more pictures from Niki’s gallery follow this link.
