Virginia J. Weaver – January 28, 2025.

Virginia J. Weaver, 107 years of age, of Susanville, California passed away on January 28, 2025.

Virginia was born on December 5, 1917 in a small town outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Dessie Jane and Oscar Felmlee. Virginia is preceded in death by her 4 siblings, Gerald (Sybil), Gertrude Boynton (Paul), Grace O’Neill (Jim), and Clifford (Evelyn), by her husband George, her son Ken, nieces Kathleen O’Neill and Jane Boynton, and nephew Bob Boynton. Virginia is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews including Paul Boynton (Mary), Bill Boynton (Hilde), Marcia Andrews, Gerry Boynton (Ruthie), Sandi Bergman (Bruce), Mike O’Neill (Sandy), Patrick O’Neill (Beth), Mary O’Neill Farrell (Tom), Kevin O’Neill (Chris), Brian O’Neill (Karen), Sherry Mazzotta, Barbara Tedford, Cathy Zimmerman (Zim) and Laurie Whitehead (Don).

Virginia and her sister Grace met their perspective husbands at the Lamp Theatre in Irwin, PA where George (Virginia’s husband-to-be) and Jimmy (Grace’s future groom) were ushers. The four of them had many double dates and the sisters enjoyed the benefits of discounted tickets at the Lamp Movie Theatre.

Virginia moved from western Pennsylvania with her husband George and their son Ken to
southern California in the mid-1950’s and settled in La Puente. Virginia worked in the
administrative office of Los Angeles County. In 1976 she and George retired and moved to
Susanville where their son Ken had already taken up residence.

Virginia loved nature and was fond of all aspects of the outdoors from flowers and plants to
birds and animals. She was a voracious reader and kept her mind sharp by always having
something to read and a waiting pile of books. For her 90th birthday, Virginia bought herself her first computer. She took basic computer lessons at the local Senior Center and was soon exploring the internet, using email and managing online accounts and files. She was determined to keep up with the times and was thrilled to have so much information available to her. Not one to “waste time” watching much television, Virginia did enjoy watching many sports and for years followed San Francisco Giants baseball. She liked the pace of college basketball, but also found a golf match to be suitably calm for a Spring afternoon viewing.

In 2014 Virginia moved into Eagle Lake Village and enjoyed participating in Bible Study Groups, Exercise Classes and was a regular in the Bistro for afternoon Bingo. Virginia often encouraged fellow residents to join in activities. She especially appreciated music programs presented by the local elementary students. Virginia’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Eagle Lake who lovingly cared for her over a decade and especially in her final days.

Virginia was wonderfully independent, thoughtful and pragmatic. She practiced the Golden
Rule by treating others as she would like to be treated. Virginia was loved by and will be missed by many.

A Memorial Service celebrating Virginia’s life is pending. In honor of Virginia’s love of nature please consider a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation in lieu of flowers: https://shop.arborday.org/trees-in-memory
