Walter “Irvin” Johnson

Born August 10, 1946, in San Francisco, CA to Walter Nelson Johnson and Barbara Beatrice Morris and was their sixth child in a family of seven children. Irvin passed away peacefully at his residence, in Standish, surrounded by his immediate family, on June 3, 2018, at the age of 71. After finding out he had cancer in April 2018.

Irvin had moved to Herlong with his family, when he was 4 years old, then when he was 7 years old the family moved into Susanville.
At the age of 21, Irvin met and married the love of his life, Donna Lee Long, after dating only 4 months, on December 16, 1967. In 1968 welcomed their first child, Rachelle Lee Johnson and their second child in 1971, Irvin “DeWayne” Johnson. In 1978 they moved the family to Standish, CA where they lived the rest of his life. Irvin and Donna were happily married for 50 years, on December 2017.

Irvin moved many homes around this area, with Mr. Music, was a tree faller, then worked in the lumber mill on Johnstonville Road from 1970 until it was closed down, when he went to work at the Adin Hill Gold Mine until medically retiring from a back injury. He always enjoyed hunting, fishing, car racing, motorcycling, camping, and spending time with all of his many friends and family.

Irvin is preceded in death by his father Walter Nelson, mother Barbara Beatrice, brothers Eldon Ray and Frank Lee Johnson, and sister Velma La Wanna Draper.

He is survived by his wife Donna Johnson, daughter Rachelle Yett of Susanville, son Irvin “DeWayne” Johnson, of Standish, two granddaughters from his daughter, Jessica Brasher of Susanville and Trisha Daly of Meridian, ID. Two grandsons, from his son, Dylan and Tyler, of Westwood, CA. In August 2017 he prayed for his oldest granddaughter and received twin great grandsons, 4 days after his 71st birthday, Asher and Zayne Brasher of Susanville. Mother-in-law Joan Mildred Long of Susanville, CA. Also surviving is brother, Robert Johnson, of Susanville, CA and Don (Terri) Johnson, of Litchfield, CA. Sister Bonnie Olson of Medford, OR. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Irvin will be held June 30, 2018, at 3:00 pm at the Community Church at 1400 Numa, in Susanville, with a potluck to follow services, so bring your favorite dish.
