At around 5:00p.m. Saturday, October 3rd, officers from the Susanville Police Department responded to a residence in the 300 block of Limoneira Avenue after receiving information that a live grenade had been discovered. When officers arrived on-scene they found that a woman who was reportedly cleaning her deceased ex-husband’s residence had come across a live grenade.
According to Police Lieutenant Matt Wood the Washoe County Consolidated Bomb Squad was contacted and responded to the scene where they took possession of the grenade. After further examination, the bomb squad made the decision to destroy the grenade by detonating it. The grenade was detonated at the old dump located off of Highway 139.
The Susanville Police Department would like to remind the public not to move suspected explosive devices and contact law enforcement immediately.
