The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Red flag warning in effect from noon until 8:00 this evening for gusty winds and low humidity for far northwest Nevada.
Affected areas include… fire zone 271 western Lassen, eastern Plumas, Sierra, and eastern Nevada counties, fire zone 278 eastern Lassen County, and fire zone 458 northern Washoe County.
Winds will be out of the southwest to west at 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 45 mph and up 55 mph are possible in wind prone locations along highway 395.
Humidity is expected to be from 7Â to 17 percent.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Follow local fire restrictions.
