Friday’s forecast for strong thunderstorms, dangerously low humidity and gusty winds have prompted forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno to issue a Fire Weather Watch in effect from Friday morning through Friday evening.
According to forecasters a scattered mix of wet and dry thunderstorms will fire off Friday morning, with increasing in coverage in the afternoon. Storms will center mainly on northeast California and western Nevada.
Gusty and erratic thunderstorm outflow winds, even well away from rain cores could gust up to around 50mph.
Lightning can create new fire starts and may combine with strong outflow winds to cause a fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.gov/reno for
