Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Fire Weather Watch for gusty winds and low humidity, which is in effect from this afternoon through Saturday evening.
The warning is for eastern Lassen County along with Surprise Valley and northern Washoe County.
Southwest winds up to 20mph will gust up to 35mph.
The humidity will drop to between 6 and 9 percent for 3 to 8 hours.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
