Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Fire Weather Watch for gusty winds and low humidity, in effect from this afternoon and into the evening hours.
Along with Lassen County affected areas include Surprise Valley and northern Washoe County.
Winds this afternoon will be southwest to west at 20 to 25mph and gusts up to 40mph.
Humidity will drop to a minimum of 12 to 18 percent for 3 to 6 hours.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
