The threat of thunderstorms and strong outflow winds this afternoon and evening have prompted forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno to issue a Fire Weather Watch for eastern Lassen and northern Washoe counties.
Forecasters expect a scattered mix of wet and dry thunderstorms this morning, with increasing coverage in the afternoon.
Thunderstorm outflow winds will be gusty and erratic, even well away from rain cores. Gusts to around 50mph are expected possible.
Lightning can create new fire starts and may combine with strong outflow winds to cause a fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
