The National Weather Service office in Reno has extended their earlier Winter Storm Watch until 10:00p.m. on Monday, warning area residents to prepare for snow accumulations of up to 8 inches here on the valley floor beginning Friday at 4:00p.m.
Heavy snow is expected in the Susanville area, with total snow accumulations of 6 to 16 inches above 5,000 feet. West of Highway 395, 1 to 3 feet of snow is expected.
Winds will be gusting as high as 40mph Sunday afternoon through Monday. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
For the valley floors, the best period for accumulating snow is Sunday into Monday.
Travel in Lassen, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra counties could be difficult or even impossible at times between Friday afternoon and Monday night.
Avoid travel if possible, you could be stuck in your vehicle for many hours. If you must travel, prepare for long delays and carry an emergency kit with extra food, water and clothing. Have a backup plan in case of power outages.
