Weather Bulletin: Heavy Snow Here in the Valley With Damaging Winds Beginning Today

Hi everybody, here is an update on the powerful winter storm that is about to impact the Honey Lake Valley, bringing heavy snow between now and Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued an Urgent Winter Weather Message for all of Lassen, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra counties.

Here in the valley a Winter Storm Warning will be in effect until 4:00a.m. Thursday for heavy snow.

Above 4,500 feet the 3-day total snow accumulations are forecast to be up to 18 inches, with 2 to 5 feet expected above 6,000 feet.

With winds gusting as high as 65 mph, and gusts over 120 mph for the ridges, periods of white-out conditions are likely.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage and white-out conditions. The strongest, most damaging winds will occur between 10:00 this morning and 10:00 tonight.

Avoid travel if possible, you could be stuck in your vehicle for many hours. If you must travel, prepare for long delays and carry an emergency kit with extra food, water and clothing. Have a backup plan in case of power outages.

The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
