The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low humidity, which is in effect from noon today until midnight tonight.
This warning is for eastern and southern Lassen County, along with parts of northern California and Nevada.
Winds will be west to southwest up to 25mph with gusts to 35mph with wind prone areas, especially along Highway 395 between Susanville and Reno, gusting up to 45mph.
Relative humidity will range between 10 and 15 percent this afternoon into the evening.
There is potential for 3 to 6 hours of gusty winds along with low relative humidity values and that combination can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
