Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low humidity, which is in effect from until 11:00 tonight.
The earlier Fire Weather Watch was upgraded to a Red Flag Warning for here in Lassen County, along with a wide swatch of western Nevada and northeatern California.
South to southwest winds of 15 to 25mph will gust up to 40mph.
Humidity is expected to fall to between 9% and 15% for 3 to 6 hours with peak winds this afternoon until 8:00p.m.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
