Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Red Flag Warning, in effect until midnight tonight, for gusty winds and low humidity here in Lassen County along with western Nevada, Alpine and Mono counties.
Winds will be southwest to west at 20 to 25mph, gusting up to 45mph. Wind prone areas, especially along Highway 395 between Susanville and Reno may reach up to 60mph at times.
A minimum humidity of 5 to 15% and gusty winds for 6 to 9 hours can
cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
