Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Red Flag warning for gusty winds and low humidity, which is in effect from noon to 11:00p.m. today.
Affected areas include – Fire Weather Zone 270 Surprise Valley, Fire Weather Zone 278 Eastern Lassen County and Fire Weather Zone 458 Northern Washoe County.
Winds will be west-southwest at 20 to 30mph with gusts up to 45mph.
The relative humidity will drop to between 10 and 20% for about three hours in the afternoon. Good overnight recoveries of 60-80% are expected Tuesday morning.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
