Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Winter Storm Warning for Lassen, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra counties, as heavy snow is expected to accumulate in the upper elevations while we see copious amounts of rain here on the valley floor.
Heavy snow is in the forcast with additional snow accumulations of 1 to 6 inches, except for 8 to 18 inches west of Highway 395.
Locally higher amounts up to 2 feet on the highest peaks. Winds gusting as high
as 35mph. Wind prone areas may gust as high as 45mph until 10:00 tonight.
Travel could be very difficult to impossible, especially over Fredonyer Summit. The hazardous conditions will impact the evening and morning commutes.
Areas that remain wet from earlier precipitation is expected to freeze this evening. Snow showers will continue after sunset, creating slick roads.
