Weather Service Issues Wind Advisory Until 8:00 This Evening

weatherupdate

Here is a quick update from the forecasters at the National Weather Service. The office has issued a Wind Advisory for our area from 11:00a.m. until 8:00p.m., today.

Wind Advisory

A Wind Advisory will be in effect from 11:00 this morning to 8:00 this evening. Peak gusts are expected this afternoon and evening.

Forecasters are predicting south to southwest winds at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50mph.

Travelers in high profile vehicles will experience hazardous conditions on wind prone sections of Highway 395 north of Susanville, on Highways 36 and 44 west of Susanville and roadways in the Surprise Valley of Modoc County.

According to the weather office now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture, holiday decorations and trash cans before winds increase which could blow these items away. The best thing to do is prepare ahead of time by making sure you have extra food and water on hand, flashlights with spare batteries and/or candles in the event of a power outage.
